According to a study done at the Henry Ford hospital in Detroit recently was published in PloS One found that Melatonin could help slow the growth of cancerous tumors noting breast cancers in particular.
The study analyzed the affect melatonin had on a group of mice for 21 days. It is noted that mice have very similar bodily functions. The mice were either assigned to a group that consumed melatonin or to a group that did not consume any melatonin. Before the start of the study the researchers implanted cancerous tumors into the mice.
The team found that by the end of the study, all of the mice that consumed melatonin did not lose any weight or energy and had significantly smaller tumors, compared to the mice that did not consume any melatonin over the 21 days. Melatonin was found to help reduce certain types of cancer by preventing the growth of tumors.
