Vitamin K May Slow Agingl

MUMBAI—A recent study conducted by nutritionists in Mumbai found that vitamin K not only reduces your risk for blood clotting, but also improves bone health and delays age related degeneration.
The study analyzed the benefits people receive from consuming vitamin K, aside from the already known benefit of reducing risk for blood clots.
The team found that vitamin K also helped improve bone health, prevent heart attacks, and delay age related deterioration of the body. In addition, they found that vitamin K is fat soluble, but is not stored in the body’s fat like other vitamins. Instead, the body recycles vitamin K into the bloodstream as and when needed.
According to livemint.com, it is recommended that adult women consume 90mg and men consume 120mg of vitamin K daily. In order to reach these recommended amounts you should:
·         Consume at least one serving of leafy greens every day. (dark green lettuce, parsley, and spinach)
·         Include Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and asparagus in your diet.
·         Consume at least 3 to 4 eggs every week
·         Consume grapes, strawberries, kiwi, tomatoes, and red and yellow peppers.
·         Add Olive oil, basil and oregano to your diet.
If you are interested in receiving these great health benefits associated with vitamin K, you might want to consider consuming the recommended amount every day.

Have a healthy day,

Coconut And Brain Health

CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS —A recent study conducted at Harvard University found that consuming coconut oil could improve your overall brain health.
The study analyzed a group of participants, they were told to add coconut oil to their daily diet. The researchers looked at the different health benefits associated with consuming coconut oil, particularly related to brain health and function.
The team found 4 significant health benefits related to brain health, which are listed below:
1.      Helps stimulate production of ketones, which are organic compounds that act as an energy source for the brain. They also help stimulate the blood flow to the brain, which improves circulation and delivery of oxygen to brain cells, improving brain function.

2.      Activates proteins (BDNFs) that repair the brain, these proteins help reduce inflammation and remove toxins in the brain.

3.      Coconut oil is rich in medium chain triglycerides, which are an important energy source for the brain that also help with the production or ketones.

4.      Helps prevent Alzheimer’s or improve brain function of those who are suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia. This is due to the production of ketones, which can help the brain function without glucose and increase energy. More energy of brain cells means improved memory function.
It is noted that you can easily add coconut oil to your daily diet by:
·         Cooking with coconut oil instead of canola or corn oil
·         Add coconut oil to smoothies or yogurt
·         Drink coconut milk
If you are interested in improving your overall brain health, you might want to consider adding coconut oil to your daily diet.

Grapes And Bone Health

INDIANA—A recent study conducted at Purdue University and featured in The Journal of Nutrition found that consuming grapes could increase your bone strength and health.

The study analyzed a group of mice, it is noted that mice have very similar bodily functions compared to humans. The mice were split up into two groups; one group was fed grapes for an 8-week period, while the other group did not receive any grapes.

The team found that the group who consumed grapes on a daily basis had nearly 45 percent more net calcium retention than those who did not consume grapes. Increased calcium retention goes hand in hand with thicker and stronger bones.

According to the researchers, grapes not only help with bone health, but they also are great for your heart and previous studies have shown them to help prevent cancer and other diseases.

If you are interested in strengthening your bones, or receiving some of these health benefits, you might want to consider adding grapes to your daily diet.

Folic Acid And Stroke

BEIJING—A recent study conducted at Peking University First Hospital in Beijing and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that adding folic acid to your diet could help prevent stroke and high blood pressure.

The study included 20,000 participants with high blood pressure. The subjects were randomly assigned to either consume folic acid or a placebo, daily. The researchers followed the participants for an average of 5 years.

The team found that those who included folic acid in their daily diets were 21 percent less likely to suffer from a stroke, compared to those who did not consume folic acid. In addition, they found this nutrient also was associated with a reduction in heart-related deaths.

According to the US National Institutes of Health, folic acid can be found in the following foods:

·         Dark leafy vegetables

·         Dried beans and peas
.
·         Citrus fruits and juices

·         Bread and Pasta

If you are interested in preventing stroke or other heart related issues, you might want to consider adding foods rich with folic acid to your daily diet.

Are Your Arteries Depriving Your Youthfulness? Cont'd

Certain foods contain high levels of inorganic nitrate. When you eat these foods, this nitrate converts to nitric oxide in your body. Beetroot juice is at the top of the list… followed by kale, melon, celery, lettuce and spinach. Broccoli, ginger root and cabbage are pretty good too.

If you like these foods, it's recommend trying to get plenty of them in your diet. But don't cook them in water. That removes all of the nitrates. Instead, try steaming, roasting or drinking the raw juice.

Now these foods will give you a boost, but to get the kind of sustained boost in NO levels that will actually make a difference in how you feel, you need something more powerful. That's why it's often recommend taking a nitric oxide-boosting supplement.

For example, an amino acid called citrulline naturally increases levels of the nitric oxide precursor L-arginine (which helps your body make more NO). All it takes is 1,500 mg of citrulline daily to get an NO boost.

Or, you can look for a plant-based NO enhancer that has beetroot juice as its main ingredient. These plant-based formulas vary from one manufacturer to another, which can make it hard to choose the one that gives the biggest bang for your buck. So you'll be glad to hear that one of these formulas in the works right now.

It's a combination of red beetroot extract, citrulline, arginine, melon juice and other potent NO boosters. All of these ingredients are scientifically proven to enhance your body's natural NO production.

And once your NO production goes up, you'll feel it from your head to your toes. In fact, it can make a real difference in how you feel and how long you live. When you buy make sure all ingredients mentioned above is included.

Have a great day.

Are Your Arteries Depriving Your Youthfulness?

Did you know your heart pumps something like 1,800 gallons of blood through your veins and arteries each day? If you stretched them all end-to-end, they'd measure an incredible 60,000 miles.

This flow of blood nourishes your heart, brain, muscles, kidneys, genitals and more. So it stands to reason if you have reduced blood flow, it will impact every organ in your body.
In other words, it's not just your cardiovascular health that's affected by a sluggish flow of blood.

It also means you get tired more easily, you become more forgetful and your sex drive slips away. Your metabolism changes, steps seem steeper and maybe your hair is turning gray. You just… well… start feeling old! This makes it especially important to keep your blood vessels in top-notch shape.

Unfortunately, you can have poor blood flow for years without ever knowing it. There are very few outward symptoms. And the ones you do have – like fatigue, forgetfulness or a lack of interest in bedroom activities – are so general they can easily be dismissed as aging.
But if you're suffering from these signs of decreased blood flow, there's something you can do about it – without taking dangerous prescription drugs. You don't have to accept that it "just happens to all of us.”

All that blood pumping through makes a big difference in how hard it has to work. Think of it as the difference between filling a swimming pool with a fire-truck hose or the one you'd use to water your flowers.

Clearly, the more wide open and relaxed your blood vessels are, the more freely your blood will flow throughout your body. The narrower they are, the more constricted your blood flow will be.

This narrowing can cause tearing and scarring on the inner walls of your vessels – the endothelium. Once the damage sets in, fats and cholesterol start building up and cause your blood vessels to narrow even further. This isn't just bad for your heart. It's bad for your entire body.

But there is good news. You see, your body naturally makes something that helps your blood vessels function like "fire-truck hoses instead of garden hoses.” It's called nitric oxide, or NO.

When nitric oxide is plentiful, your arteries and veins are wide open. Once those vessels are open and relaxed, blood flow increases to your brain, your heart, your muscles… and to every organ and cell in your body.

That means you'll feel younger, less forgetful, and can go a whole lot farther before you get tired. Your blood pressure will drop, sex will be back on the menu and life will become exciting again.

But here's the problem… By the time you reach age 40, your body makes about half as much NO as it did in your youth. And as you grow older, the cells on the inner lining of your blood vessels (the endothelial cells) become thicker. This makes them less able to create nitric oxide.

In fact, some researchers consider decreased availability of nitric oxide in the endothelium as one of the earliest signs of arterial aging. So, the solution is to increase the availability of NO to boost blood flow to your heart, brain, muscles… and to all of your organs and cells.

Thankfully, there is a way you can do this – without changing your lifestyle.

To be cont'd.

God bless you all.

Ease Depression Naturally

DINBURGH, SCOTLAND – A recent review conducted at the University of Edinburgh suggests that exercise can symptoms of depression.

The researchers were able to compile data from 35 different previous studies so they had a substantial sample.

The team found after analyzing the results from previous studies that subjects that exercised experienced reductions in their depressive symptoms compared to those who did other activities, such as using relaxation techniques, or received no treatment.

In fact, several studies had as many as 45-55 percent of the participants that exercised reporting significant improvement in depression symptoms.  With the Centers for for Disease Control and Prevention saying that as many as one in ten Americans are clinically depressed, this study could prove to be quite meaningful.

According to Dr. Gillian Mead, the study's senior author:

"This review provides some additional evidence that there may be some benefit to exercise.”

If you’re interested in improving your emotional outlook and want to stay away from drugs, you might consider trying exercise.

Have a great day.

Omega-3. May Reduce Inflammation

CANADA—A recent study conducted in Canada and presented in Live in the Now found that Omega-3 fatty acids help fight off inflammation, especially relating to arthritis.
It is noted that there are two main types of arthritis, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, which affects an estimated 28 million people in the United States alone.
The study analyzed 87 participants who were randomly placed into two groups. One group received omega-3 daily and the other group received a placebo. All of the participants completed arthritic assessments before and three times during the study. The assessment focused on joint pain, stiffness, and loss of function in their knees and hips.
At the end of the study, the researchers found that those who consumed omega-3 daily reduced their need for medication needed for arthritis pain by nearly 32 percent. In addition, the omega-3 group saw an average reduction of 20 percent in their CRP levels, which are one of the most reliable measures of internal inflammation related to arthritis.
Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in fish (salmon, tuna), olive oil, edamame, eggs, and walnuts.
According to the study author:
“Chronic inflammation is thought to be one of the biggest predictors of many major diseases, including cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s, cancer, and arthritis.”
If you are interested in preventing inflammation or improving your joint pain, you might want to consider adding omega-3 to your daily diet.

Have a great day.
