GEORGIA —A recent study conducted at Georgia Tech University and published in the journalActa Psychologica found that exercising could help improve your memory.
The study included 46 participants; they were split into 2 groups. During the first part of the experiment all of the participants viewed a series of 90 images on a computer, they were told to remember as many of them as they could. They were then split into “active” and “passive” groups. The active group was told to extend and contract each leg 50 times, while the passive group was told to sit still on chairs.
The team found that 2 days later the active group remembered 60 percent of the 90 images that were shown. The researchers noted that this could be from the release of norepinephrine, which is formed after exercise.
According to WebMD, it is recommended to get 20-30 minutes of moderate exercise 5 days per week. The following examples are considered moderate exercises:
· Brisk Walking
· Going on a bike ride
· Swimming
· House work (mowing lawn, vacuuming)
If you are interested in improving your memory, you might want to consider adding moderate exercise to your daily routine.
Enjoy your day.
