Studies conducted at Harvard University and published in the Harvard Health Newsletter found that vitamin B12 could help prevent or fight off Alzheimer’s disease.
According to Alzheimer’s.org, nearly 1 in every 8 Americans over the age of 65 has Alzheimer’s disease and it is the 6th leading cause of death.
The study analyzed a group of participants and measured the amount of vitamin B12 they consumed daily. The researchers then compared these results to the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
The team found that the majority of people have a deficiency in vitamin B12. This is not good news, because they also found that this nutrient not only helps keep your immune system strong, regulates sleep and energy, but also keeps your brain from shrinking. It is noted that reduction in brain mass is directly associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
According to Harvard University , the following foods are rich in vitamin B12:
· Fruits and vegetables
· Whole grains
· Beans
· Chicken and fish
· Dark leafy greens
If you are interested in preventing Alzheimer’s disease, you might want to consider adding vitamin B12 to your daily diet.
Enjoy your day.
